About Tenggol Island

Tenggol Island is part of a group of islands that form the southernmost part of the Terengganu Marine Park. Besides Tenggol, other islands are Tokong Timur, Tokong Burung, Pulau Nyireh, Tokong Talang/Tokong Kemudi and Tokong Laut. There are many stunning beaches and the 3 x 2 kilometre island is criss-crossed by a few roads, making it easy to walk around. There are 20 dive sites on Tenggol Island. The reason most visitors come is for the amazing diving. Non-divers can also enjoy snorkeling around the island. It has 2 resorts – The One Tenggol Island Resort and the Tenggol Coral Beach Resort on the island of Tenggol. Visitors are able to enjoy their holidays in these resorts.

Visitors cannot access Tenggol Island between October and February. This is the rainy season, known as the monsoon. Most resort staff temporarily relocate to the mainland to avoid the harsh weather during these months. The best months for good weather in Tenggol Island are March and April. Dive Tenggol’s seabed for treasures not found elsewhere: soft corals, batfish, nudibranchs, famous clownfish, Nemo and eerie shipwrecks!August to October is the best time to see whale sharks.

Please take note that ATMs are not available on the island. It is advisable to bring enough cash to cover your expenses while on the island, although credit cards are accepted at some resorts. There are ATMs at both Kuala Dungun and Kuala Terengganu airports. There are no shops on Tenggol Island, so make sure you bring everything you’ll need from the mainland.
